Driven Dragons Volleyball Academy: A Year of Growth and Excellence
We’ve had the privilege of working with the Driven Dragons Volleyball Academy for about a year now. Our involvement has spanned clinics, camps, and participation in their travel club season last year. Founded by Jaime, this academy embodies a heart of gold and a deep passion for volleyball. However, perhaps Jaime’s greatest attribute lies in her unwavering commitment to helping children grow in both skill and confidence.
Building Confidence, Skills, and Passion
Jaime’s approach to the club is simple yet powerful: foster confidence, develop skills, and ignite passion for volleyball, regardless of the starting level. When we joined the club, we had a couple of years of clinic experience under our belts but no prior club exposure. Jaime and her husband, Christian, served as excellent guides, teaching not only the girls but also the parents about how club volleyball operates. Their guidance was invaluable because, as we soon discovered, the volleyball community can be highly competitive, and it’s easy to feel “lost” during tournaments.
Stellar Communication and Growth
Jaime and Christian consistently ensured that we were well-informed. They communicated clearly about what was happening, when events were scheduled, and what we could expect next. Their stellar communication skills extended across multiple channels, making them approachable for any questions or concerns. We wholeheartedly recommend them! In just their first year, the academy has expanded from 2 teams to 5+ and has recruited top-notch coaches. We eagerly anticipate their continued success.

Good group of girls and parents were on the team. The coaches were great too!

Yes, we want a 17s team and I think several other families are committed to coming back and keeping the girls together.

Did you notice improvement in your athlete’s skills or confidence this season? If so, in what areas?
Her confidence and concentration improved a lot and she became part of a team that cared a lot for each other win lose or draw. When one is down or takes a knock they are all there for each other.
What was the best part of the season for you as a parent (e.g., watching games, community, coaching)?
Community! Felt I belonged for my than I had in years we all lived every minute of every game.
Coaches were great and always approachable not that I ever had any issues.
The energy watching games where they played as one was electric they are one short step away from being formidable as when they’re on it they’re on it!
Are you planning to return next season? If not, what would need to change?
Very likely
Comments:
We will tryout with you and hopefully she makes the team again ! If you are having a 17u team that is. But she and us realize she still needs to do well in the tryouts to make the grade Of note every parent I spoke to at the gala said they’d like them to play again and finish what they started. The coach has shown the girls have potential so it’d be good to see them fulfill it. More fitness work and aerobic training would be good to see. At the end of a long day against a team of equal skill those who are the fittest will have the edge
What’s one thing the club did really well this season?
Bond the girls as a team, and get them thinking of each other first and not themselves
What is your opinion of your Team's Head Coach and your team's assistant coach?
Coach Jordan is good. Firm but fair and every single player came on leaps and bounds. Now coach needs to be given the chance to finish the job! I’ve never seen a group of girls bond like they have. Not ever!
Coach Desiree is great and a fun character to be around for parents as well as players. Also very good technically when teaching skills

How well was club communications and organization?
Communications were great. Jamie you are doing a amazing job keeping us informed on tournaments/practice and other club updates/changes.
Would you recommend Driven Dragons?
Yes, we have mentioned to all our friends about DD.
Did you notice improvement in your athlete's skills and confidence this season?
She improved her serving. She was always a good blocker and a passer. With playing more volleyball she has developed the skill of court awareness.
Best part of the season from you as a parent?
Watching the 14u Ruby team develop their volleyball skills and playing as a team. How the girls are adapting to wins and losses and how well they learn from the losses.
Are you planning on returning next season?
Very Likely: We are loyal to DD. Like to see this club develop into something amazing and I think we have the right mentality on top for this to be achieved. Like to see DD reaching the American and national levels in regional tournaments. [Adding this change for next club season to challenge and help our athlete's rise -Jaime Lizarazu 5/1/2025]

Comments:
I definitely noticed improvement in Madeline’s skill level and improvement in her confidence level as well.
What was the best part of the season for you as a parent (e.g., watching games, community, coaching)?
The tournaments and watching Madeline serve and play
Were there any challenges or frustrations you faced with the club this season?
With the first tournament, Madeline had very little play time but we set up a zoom meeting with Coach Christian and also had an entire team zoom with him and after that, I think the season was great!
Are you planning to return next season? If not, what would need to change?
Likely
Comments:
We are not 100% sure what the plan is for next year. We will wait to see if Madeline gets a loyalty offer with Driven Dragons, for what team and would be curious to know who the coach would be. If we did return, we would be really happy with that. It was a great team, great group of girls, no drama and great group of parents as well!
