Description

The Dragon Heart initiative is a comprehensive mental training program designed to help our athletes develop the mental toughness, focus, and resilience needed to reach their full potential on and off the court. Through a combination of book discussions, mental skills training, and guest speaker sessions, athletes will learn valuable strategies for overcoming challenges, building confidence, and enhancing their overall performance.

For Travel Team Athletes:

Unleash your Dragon Heart and soar to new heights! This exclusive program is designed for DDVA Travel Team athletes and their families. Here's how you can get involved:

  • Read "Inner Excellence": This book Jim Murphy is the foundation of our program. Get your copy and start reading! 

  • Engage in Discussions: Participate actively in our weekly team discussions during practices. Share your thoughts, ask questions, and connect with your teammates.
     

  • Practice Mental Skills: Fully commit to the mental skills training incorporated into our practices. Practice these techniques regularly to develop your mental toughness.
     

  • Explore Optional Opportunities: Take advantage of our guest speaker sessions, workshops, and individual coaching to deepen your mental training. 

What is Dragon Heart?

Dragon Heart is about igniting the fire within. It's about cultivating the inner strength, courage, and resilience that will empower you to overcome any challenge. This program is designed to help you develop your "Dragon Heart" – that unwavering spirit that pushes you to persevere even when exhausted, that allows you to bounce back from setbacks, and that fuels your journey to greatness.

Dragon Heart is an investment in your future – both as an athlete and as a person. This program will equip you with the mental tools you need to:

  • Perform at your best, consistently.

  • Handle pressure with grace and composure.

  • Bounce back from setbacks stronger than ever.

  • Become a more effective teammate and leader.

  • Develop the confidence and self-belief to achieve your dreams.

Dragon Heart is the DDVA's mental training program designed to develop these essential mental skills. Through a combination of interactive workshops, guided discussions, and practical exercises, athletes will learn how to:

  • Enhance focus and concentration

  • Manage stress and emotions

  • Build confidence and resilience

  • Improve teamwork and communication

  • Set goals and achieve them

Mental Training

"Inner Excellence" Book Discussions:

We'll explore the principles of mental toughness through discussions of Jim Murphy's "Inner Excellence," learning from real-life examples and applying the concepts to our own athletic journeys.

Mental Skills Training:

Through interactive workshops and exercises, we'll learn practical techniques for visualization, mindfulness, positive self-talk, and more – skills you can use to enhance your performance and manage pressure.

Expert Guidance:

We'll have guest speakers – sports psychologists and other experts – share their knowledge and insights, providing valuable perspectives on mental performance.

Personalized Growth:

Book time with our sports psychologists and experts – share your goals and challenges and rise to greatness by tapping into great 1-on-1 sessions focused on your development.

Home Schooling

For Parents of Travel Team Athletes:

  1. Support Your Athlete: Encourage your athlete to read "Inner Excellence" and discuss the concepts with them. Ask open-ended questions like, "What did you learn today?" or "How do you think you can apply this to your next game?"

  2. Attend Parent Workshops (Highly Recommended): We highly recommend parents of travel team athletes attend our workshops to learn how to best support their athlete's mental development. These workshops will provide valuable insights and practical strategies.

  3. Communicate with Coaches: Stay connected with the coaching staff regarding your athlete's progress and any questions you may have. Open communication is key to a successful athlete-parent-coach relationship.

  4. Individual Coaching (Optional): Parents of travel team athletes can also participate in individual coaching sessions to learn strategies for supporting their athlete's mental well-being.
